Which Aion 2 Class to Play at Launch

All eight global launch classes by role, weapon and learning curve, and which one fits how you want to play.
Aion 2 launches globally with eight classes, all open to both Elyos and Asmodians:
Templar,
Gladiator,
Assassin,
Ranger,
Sorcerer,
Spiritmaster,
Cleric and
Chanter. Each class uses one weapon type and fills one main role. The Brawler, added to the Korean and Taiwanese service this year, is not in the global launch roster.
The short answer
If you want one safe pick, take Gladiator for fast solo leveling, Ranger for safe damage from range, or Templar and Cleric if you want groups to ask for you. Assassin and Sorcerer have the highest ceilings and the least room for error. Spiritmaster suits players who like a pet doing the front-line work. None of them locks you out of solo content.
All eight classes at a glance
| Class | Role | Weapon | Learning curve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Templar | Tank | Longsword and shield | Easy |
| Gladiator | Melee damage, off-tank | Greatsword | Moderate |
| Assassin | Melee burst | Daggers | Hard |
| Ranger | Ranged physical damage | Bow | Moderate |
| Sorcerer | Ranged magic damage | Spellbook | Hard |
| Spiritmaster | Summoner | Orb | Moderate |
| Cleric | Healer | Mace | Easy |
The learning curve column is GoffMeta's own rating from each class page. It describes how forgiving the class is in your first hours, not how strong it is at the top.
Pick by how you want to play
You want to be in the middle of the fight
Templar holds the front with taunts, blocks and group control, and it has the highest survivability in the game. It is the most forgiving class to learn, and dungeon groups always need a tank. Start from the Templar leveling build.
Gladiator swings a greatsword through groups and sustains itself instead of backing off. It hits several enemies at once and is sturdy for a damage dealer, which is why most launch guides call it the strongest solo leveler. Community tier lists built on Korean data agree. Start from the Gladiator leveling build.
You want to deal damage from range
Ranger kites with a bow and traps. Its damage is steady and its escape tools are good, so mistakes cost less than on a caster. Several launch guides name it the easiest damage class for new players. Start from the Ranger leveling build.
Sorcerer has the highest burst at range and the thinnest armour. It wants control first and big casts second, and it is at its best in coordinated groups. Pick it if you accept dying while you learn. Start from the Sorcerer leveling build.
Spiritmaster fights through spirits, damage over time and drains. The spirit takes pressure while you cast, which makes it comfortable alone, but it trades burst for attrition. Start from the Spiritmaster leveling build.
You want to keep a group alive
Cleric is the main healer, with cleanses and enough defence to hold its own. Every group wants one, and the class is easy to start. Solo leveling is slower than on a damage class. Start from the Cleric leveling build.
Chanter cycles mantras and group buffs, tops up the healer and adds melee damage when nothing needs saving. It is a hybrid: welcome in groups, self-sufficient alone, rarely the fastest at either. Start from the Chanter leveling build.
You want burst and timing
Assassin opens from stealth, lands a back-attack chain with daggers and resets with mobility. It has the top burst damage and is a strong duelist, but the margins are thin and the damage is front-loaded. Most guides suggest it as a second character. Start from the Assassin leveling build.
If you mostly play alone
Leveling, quests and exploration work on every class. The difference is speed and safety.
- Fastest: Gladiator, thanks to multi-target damage and self-sustain.
- Safest: Ranger and Spiritmaster, which keep enemies away or let a spirit take the hits.
- Slowest: Cleric and Chanter, whose strength is the party.
If you play with a group
A standard dungeon party needs a tank, a healer and damage. Templar and Cleric are always wanted, and Chanter makes any group stronger. If your friends are already set, ask which role is missing before you choose. A group of five damage dealers levels fast and then stalls at the first hard dungeon.
Things that do not decide it
- Faction. All eight classes exist on both sides. Choose Elyos or Asmodian for the server and the look, not the class.
- Korean tier lists. Most rankings online come from the Korean and Taiwanese service. The global build has its own balance, so treat them as a rough guide until global data exists.
- The Brawler. It is not in the global roster, and NCSOFT has not given a date. Do not wait for it.
Before you create the character
